Letter from Carla Zilka, Founder & Principal Advisor
As the economy continues to limp along, showing slow signs of a recovery, businesses are extremely cautious about how they spend their money. One of the hardest hit industries was consulting, with businesses sending a message to consultants worldwide about their dissatisfaction with the cost of hiring an external expert to help with their business issues.
Having working for years on the corporate side, and then in a large, global consulting firm, I understand the frustration of having consultants come into a company, tell leadership what's wrong, put plans in place to fix it, then tie themselves to the execution in a way that requires them staying for years at a time. At NexGen we hold strong to the "teach a man to fish" philosophy and focus on educating our clients on how to perform restructuring or transformation on their own, without overtaxing internal resources. To other consultants in our industry, this may not sound lucrative. To large restructuring firms with high overhead and inflated structures, frankly it's not. The consulting model is built on hours billed, not how quickly and efficiently you solved the companies issues. I can see how it may be tempting for a large firm to stay in a company, execute a transformation and bill the client hourly...but we know that doesn't work for you.
We know what you want - VALUE, just like your customers do. "Value" only comes from getting what you want at the right price. At NexGen, our sole goal is to assess your situation, come up with a rigorous plan, and help YOU execute it by providing tools and processes that make the job easy, and dare I say fun. And we do it at fixed prices with subject matter experts from all over the world. No firm has an expert in every area you need help with, so by instituting a "network of experts" we allow companies to find the right expert to solve the right issue, with NexGen leading the process.
I've worked with many companies, small and large, and most have similar problems. Different industries, but similar problems. Having the ability to solve problems, sometimes complex, requires having been there before and seeing the result of the interventions put in place. It's our experience that allows us to feel confident in the outcome of any project we undertake. In fact, we are so confident about the work we do, if we don't think the company is ready to take on a restructuring or that the leadership team isn't aligned with the CEO, we won't take on a project. It's about principle, doing the right thing for the company, regardless of fees.
We help you with all aspects of your business. As business advisors, we are able to consult on many different levels and areas of your business. If you have questions about what warrants hiring us, just contact us. We'll be direct and honest...a rare attribute these days.
